Gibson & Goold

The 25th of June this year will mark an incredible anniversary for an exceptional local business. Gibson & Goold will celebrate their 70th anniversary, an incredible achievement for an independent family run business whose entire ethos focuses on the best quality and service to help you make your house into a home.

Gibson & Goold typifies what a family run business is with owner Keith Goold and his son carrying on the success of Keith’s father and grandfather, with his grandfather’s uncle opening the doors in 1954. They have a loyal staff of over 50, many of whom have been there for over 20 years, with some clocking up over 30 years of service.

“We must be doing something right. We try and look after everyone and I know we are only as good as our last job, in today’s environment, that is more prevalent than ever. Our staff are tremendous, and they all support us with giving our customers a great product.”

Diversity and a loyal customer base are what Keith believes are the key to success.

“People think we only do fireplaces and have the showroom on Whitletts Road, but we have the Bathroom and Heating showroom out at Old Farm Road as well. We made the decision to invest in renewables a few years ago and with some of our competitors not doing the same it has allowed us to take a step forward.”

Gibson & Goold are well known for fireplaces and stoves, but bathrooms are a huge area of the business, and the renewable market is an area that the business identified a few years ago as one to invest in and they are reaping the rewards of this now. One of the only recognised suppliers and fitters of heat pumps in the Ayrshire area is another feather in the cap. This diversification and commitment to invest in their team shows why Gibson & Goold has been so successful over the years and continues to grow, even through tough times for businesses in today’s climate.

“2008 was my first experience of a recession and how that can affect a business. It was a tough time, but we made it through. Covid brought new challenges but the two years following Covid were strong and really helped us bounce back after the uncertainty that Covid brought initially.”

There are no further expansion plans just now for Gibson & Goold with Keith citing the fact that they have never overly expanded and diluted their product helping them deliver such quality work for their customers.

Keith and the team work tirelessly all year to ensure that they can deliver the best quality for their customers. It isn’t easy but Keith’s drive and commitment to maintain the business’ exceptionally high standards have helped the business not only stay open for 70 years but grow and flourish through tough economic times.

“There has to be that graft and commitment when you have your own business. It’s 7 day weeks, 14 hour days through the winter and that’s a large part of our success. It’s not just me, my entire team has the same work ethic and that’s why we are still here.”

It sounds like Keith and his team have found a great recipe for success and it is great to see a local business still going strong after 70 years. If you are in the market for a new bathroom, renewable energy or a beautiful new fireplace, Gibson & Goold would be delighted to help make your house a home. With 70 years of success and experience you know it’s quality you can trust.
