Gibsons Auto Services

Keeping your off-roader on the road

For over 70 years, Land Rover has made some of the finest four-wheel drive vehicles on the planet, something that’s borne out by the marque’s large and passionate owner base. Indeed, for many people nothing else but a Land Rover will do. So for owners in Ayrshire and the west of Scotland, it’s good to know that there’s a highly knowledgeable Land Rover specialist on hand to help keep their beloved vehicles in fine fettle.

That specialist is Cumnock-based Gibsons Auto Services, who celebrate their 25th anniversary this year. Run by Colin Armstrong, Ross Cree, and Alan Stewart, all of whom are highly experienced mechanics, Gibsons has occupied spacious, well-equipped premises at Ayr Road, Cumnock, since 2006.

Gibsons’ team of highly trained Land Rover specialists service, repair, and restore all Land Rover and Range Rover models and variants as well as supplying parts to both the public and the motor trade. They’re passionate about Land Rovers but even more so about delivering good customer service, as Colin Armstrong explains: “We go the extra mile for our customers and that’s why they come back again. We’re very proud of the number of repeat customers we have but we never take their custom for granted.”

Such is Gibsons’ level of expertise, they’re frequently tasked with undertaking repair work for mountain rescue units based in both Scotland and England. Indeed, there’s usually at least one mountain rescue vehicle receiving attention in the workshop at any given time.

“Mountain rescue Land Rovers are bespoke vehicles, tailored to the specific needs of each mountain rescue team,” says Colin, “but as mountain rescue teams aren’t directly funded by the government it would be prohibitively expensive for them to replace their vehicles with new ones. Specialist help is therefore needed to ensure that their existing Land Rovers are safe and fit for purpose, and that’s where we come in. We consider it a great privilege to be entrusted with keeping their vehicles in prime condition so that they can continue to perform the life-saving work that they’re renowned for.”

Gibsons also restore Land Rovers for customers, offering full chassis-up rebuilds in addition to their servicing and repair work, as amply evidenced by a glance at the photographs which line the walls of their reception area.

The main focus of Gibsons is, of course, the service and repair of all Land Rover and Range Rover models, from the earliest model right up to the most recent. To this end, they have invested greatly in the same high level diagnostic equipment as found at Jaguar Land Rover main dealerships. In addition, Gibsons are able to log-in to the main Jaguar Land Rover live database, through which they can access up-to-date technical information including workshop manuals, electrical diagrams, technical bulletins and diagnostic information. They also subscribe to Jaguar Land Rover’s electronic parts catalogue through which, using a vehicle’s unique VIN number, they can easily and correctly source the correct parts for the vehicle in question. Moreover, Gibsons can also carry out authorised repairs under Land Rover’s extended warranty and also update Land Rover’s online servicing records whenever work is carried out to a customer’s car.

So no matter what model or what year your Land Rover or Range Rover may be, Gibsons Auto Services is the go-to place for anything from a full restoration of a 1950s series 1 Land Rover to a first service for your 2024 Range Rover.
