Festival of Flight

Gill Sherry

Ayr shorefront is the place to be for this inaugural spectacle taking place on Friday 8th to Sunday 10th September.

A host of iconic aircraft will take to the skies during the main event on Saturday 9th September with aviation displays to delight every generation, including the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, The Red Arrows and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF).

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of South Ayrshire’s coastline, this aerial extravaganza will be like nothing you’ve seen before and will feature world-class military and civilian aviation displays.

There will be something for everyone in the Festival Village so prepare to be entertained as well as inspired during a weekend of family fun.

South Ayrshire Council has partnered with the SKYLAB to deliver an unmissable event that not only benefits local communities, but promotes the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), proving to the next generation that the sky really is the limit!

The event’s charity partner is the RAF Benevolent Fund. The charity has been providing emotional, practical and financial support to serving and ex-serving RAF personnel and their families for over 100 years and is the perfect partner for this brand-new air show.

This flagship event boasts Les Garside-Beattie OBE as its Flying Display Director. Thanks to his extensive air display experience, a jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring display is guaranteed!

The International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight is just one of a series of major events taking place in South Ayrshire this year, all of which promise to boost the local economy and help put South Ayrshire on the map as a thriving and fabulous destination to live, visit or invest in.
