Lemon Gin Gimlet
The time has finally come to enjoy lip-smacking libations in the Scottish sunshine. The drink we’re talking about this month is a real crowd pleaser, with all the ingredients easily sourced from local supermarkets and drinks retailers.
The origins of this drink date back to the 19th century, where British sailors started mixing their daily ration of gin and lemon or lime juice together, creating an unembellished version of the drink we see today.
This Gimlet is unashamedly suited for the lemon and lime lovers out there. The boozy kick of citrusy gin pairs perfectly with the sweet lemon flavours of limoncello, giving a really balanced twist on a classic.
INGREDIENTS
40ml Gin
15ml Limoncello
20ml Fresh lemon juice
15ml Lime cordial
10ml sugar syrup
METHOD
- Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and fill with large cubed ice.
- Shake vigorously for 8-10 seconds until the ingredients have mixed thoroughly and the drink is suitably chilled.
- Double strain into a chilled coupe glass.
- Garnish with a either a fresh lemon or lime peel and serve immediately whilst its ice cold.
Top tip: Using high quality gin or limoncello makes a massive impact here. Freshly squeezed lemon juice is also a necessity.
