Tender, Loving Care in Ayrshire

When Joanne Brown set up TLC in June 2019, she was determined to put the tender, loving care back into the homecare sector.

“I had worked in big organisations,” she explains, “and I felt that the personal touch was being lost a wee bit. I just wanted to bring that TLC back to the community. I wanted people to be able to stay at home longer.”

The name of the company represents perfectly what Joanne is aiming to achieve. It also happens to contain the same initials as her daughters, Taylor and Lauren, and her grandson, Cole, giving the name special meaning and thus ingraining that personal touch still further. Lauren also works for TLC as the Business Administrator.

TLC offers personal care and support services to vulnerable adults in Ayrshire and its surrounding areas. Joanne was born in Ayr and has lived in the town her entire life. Having worked in the care sector for over twenty years, she brings a wealth of experience to her role as owner and Managing Director of TLC.

Under Joanne’s expert guidance, the company strives to provide a high-quality service which will enable people to live as independently as possible, for as long as possible, in their own homes.

Homecare services include meal preparation, assistance with eating and drinking, assistance with medication, help with getting up, washed and dressed, and help to bath or shower.

TLC also offers respite support including all of the above, plus housework, making beds, laundry and ironing, and support with appointments (e.g. doctor, dentist, hospital, bank).

All staff are PVG checked, fully trained and certified. Joanne herself has SVQ level 4 in Health and Social Care and SVQ in Leadership and Management. She is also a qualified Moving and Handling trainer.

Not content with offering the best personal care and support to her clients, Joanne has also set up a training academy, SC Training, and would encourage those in either a care home or care-at-home environment, to get in touch with a view to earning their SVQ qualifications.

In addition, TLC works closely with South Ayrshire Council, and also welcomes visitors at its Prestwick office where the company is very much a part of the community. Speaking of which, TLC proudly supports Ayr Boswell 2009s football team. Joanne’s other grandson, Jay (a member of the team) may not feature in the company initials, but he still deserves a mention! Her brother-in-law, David Brown, is one of the coaches, and sponsoring the team not only reinforces TLC’s community involvement but also highlights the importance of family. Understanding that bond is precisely why Joanne does what she does.

“I super-proud of my whole team,” says Joanne. “My carers and office staff care just as much about our clients as I do. TLC is very much in their hearts too.”

Maintaining and improving the overall happiness of clients, as well as their family and friends, is what drives Joanne and her team. So whether it’s homecare, private care, overnight services or respite, TLC can promise exactly that – tender, loving care.
