Sir Tom Hunter invited Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce Platinum and Gold+ members to his Blair Estate, opening up a dynamic discussion and sharing his own insights.
The event provided a platform for attendees to hear directly from Sir Tom as he shared his thoughts on the current trade and industry landscape, along with his perspectives on leadership, business growth and personal development.
During the session, visitors had the unique opportunity to engage in conversation with Sir Tom, raising key business challenges and seeking his views on topics such as finding purpose, backing oneself in business, securing sources of finance, addressing skills gaps and fostering entrepreneurship. The wide-ranging chat also touched on leadership and the qualities required to navigate today’s evolving business environment.

Sir Tom established his first business with a £5,000 loan from his father and matching funds from the bank. Starting by selling trainers from the back of a van, he expanded this venture into Sports Division, which became Europe’s largest independent sports retailer. In 1998, he sold Sports Division to JJB Sports in a multi-million-pound deal.
Beyond retail, Sir Tom has been actively involved in property development and various business investments. He is also well-known for his philanthropic efforts, contributing significantly to charitable causes and initiatives.
