VETS4PETS

At our Vets4Pets practices in Ayr, Irvine and Kilmarnock, we are incredibly fortunate to have a dedicated and compassionate team of veterinary professionals. Recently, one of our veterinary nurses, Grace, went above and beyond when we had three abandoned kittens, who were only days old, brought in to the Ayr practice. Recognising their fragile state and to help Cats Protection who are overwhelmed at the minute with cats needing care, Grace took it upon herself to take the tiny kittens home, where she cared for them tirelessly. For two weeks, she became their around-the-clock caregiver, feeding them every few hours and ensuring they received the warmth, love, and attention they needed to survive. Grace’s dedication saved their lives, embodying the heart and soul of what it means to be a veterinary nurse and she did this over and above her full-time working week. We are immensely grateful not only to Grace, but our entire team for the selflessness and commitment shown to the animals in our care.

As practice owners, we are committed to supporting our incredible team members like Grace. Just as they go above and beyond for our patients, we strive to go above and beyond for them. We prioritise creating an environment where our colleagues feel valued, supported, and empowered, offering them the resources, flexibility, and encouragement they need to continue doing the extraordinary work they do every day. We regularly organise training opportunities, wellness days, and team-building events to ensure that our colleagues feel supported, valued, and rewarded for their hard work. These efforts are not only about giving back to our team, but also about making a positive impact on our wider community.

Georgina Mackie, Practice Manager and Partner said:

“At Vets4Pets Ayrshire, we witness the unwavering dedication of our team every day. Veterinary care isn’t just a job for us, it’s a passion that extends beyond the clinic’s hours. Our team often checks on patients during their personal time, responds to late-night concerns, and deeply feels the highs and lows of each case. We prioritise recognising and supporting our team’s extraordinary efforts, as their well-being is essential to the quality care your pets receive. Thank you for trusting us with your beloved companions, and please join us in acknowledging the remarkable dedication of our veterinary professionals.”

We also find joy in giving back to our wonderful community in Ayrshire. Whether this is through charity work, volunteering, or fundraising – we’re passionate about making a positive impact beyond our clinics. From organising charity events to supporting local animal shelters, these efforts not only help those in need but also strengthen our bond as a team. Giving back is one of the ways we stay connected to our local community and allows us to appreciate how fortunate we are to work in the veterinary profession.

Working at a vet practice can be tough on the emotions, as staff often help clients through the sadness of losing a pet. According to a Royal Canin study, nearly 70% of vets know a colleague or peer who has died by suicide, and about 60% have dealt with serious work-related stress, anxiety, or depression that needed professional help. To look after our team’s mental and emotional health, we offer support like a mental health first aider, regular one-on-one check-ins, and access to the confidential Vetlife Helpline. We focus on making our team feel appreciated and supported so they can keep providing top-notch care to every patient, every day.

At Vets4Pets Ayrshire, we’re more than just colleagues, we’re a family. We’re proud of the team we’ve built, and we’re committed to looking after one another, both in and out of the clinic. It’s our shared dedication that makes our practices special.
