CHERRY SODA

Constantly Evolving

With its eye-catching frontage and vast array of products, Cherry Soda has been a favourite with shoppers in Ayr town centre since it first opened its doors in 2007.
Such is its popularity, the boutique has again moved to bigger premises – its third home in Ayr Central Shopping Centre – and is now open for business at 15 Skye Square.
Described by owner, Lizzie Bell, as a ‘lifestyle store’ you can find everything from jewellery, handbags and watches, to home fragrance, candles and pyjamas.
“We also have scarves, hats, gloves and some really nice coordinated separates… jumpers and skirts,” says Lizzie.
Cherry Soda has certainly evolved since it began trading 17 years ago. Lizzie believes this is one of the reasons it has been so successful.
“We are constantly changing, it never stops. It’s about bringing newness and uniqueness. It’s offering people something a wee bit different. I travel a lot and I’m constantly looking for new things. I even bought 300 silk lanterns from Vietnam!”
As well as being able to find a unique gift (for themselves or someone else), customers can also be assured of a high quality purchase.
“Over the years we have stocked the very best. Everything from Pandora, Butler & Wilson, Vivienne Westwood, Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, Swarovski, Thomas Sabo… we’ve pretty much stocked everything you could imagine.”
But it’s the personal service that sees customers return to Cherry Soda again and again.
“We offer a really personal, local service,” says Lizzie. “I think that’s what people really like about coming here. They have a chat, they get to know us, and they love coming in to see all the new things that we bring in from around the world.”
Lizzie now employs a close-knit team of ten, including her sister who is store manager, and has nothing but praise for the whole team.
“This is a team business. We have all put in a huge amount of effort over the years. The reason it’s so successful is because everybody pitches in and contributes. They all love to work here.”
She tells the story of Courtney, who joined Cherry Soda as a Saturday girl and is now Operations Director.
“She’s incredible, she runs the whole company. I value having that family, local aspect, bringing the youngsters on and giving them the experience. Courtney is only 26 but she has the experience of running everything from VAT returns to paying invoices to buying stock and being in negotiations… not a lot of youngsters have that opportunity.”
Lizzie is also delighted to confirm that many of her customers are as loyal as her staff.
“It’s amazing. We’ve seen kids grow up. Some kids came into the shop as a wee girl and now they work for me!”
As well as offering that personal, face-to-face service, seven days a week, from their new boutique store, almost everything in store is also available to purchase on-line. And with Christmas fast approaching, when better to pay them a visit?
