Corney and Barrow

Corney and Barrow’s beautiful little wine shop, tucked away down the historic cobbles of Academy Street, is a welcome respite from the Christmas hustle and bustle – simply follow the glow of twinkling fairy lights, cross the threshold, and let one of their resident wine experts take care of you. Whether it be wine for your Christmas dinner, or the perfect gift for a work colleague, there is something for every occasion and every budget. They also have a fleet of iconic red vans delivering all over the UK, so why not relax and let them do the hard work for you!
In 1994, Corney & Barrow’s Scottish operation merged with Whighams of Ayr, one of the longest-established wine merchants in the UK. As well as Whighams’ residence in Academy Street in Ayr, Corney & Barrow took over the historic wine cellars, built in 1766, and constructed for the sole purpose of storing imported wines, ports and sherries shipped from across Europe. These cellars are still in use today for long-term customer reserve storage and they also make the most magnificent back drop for the events and tasting that Corney and Barrow regularly host.

It is their vastly popular sell-out tastings that Corney and Barrow have become best known for in recent years. Not only are they a terrific opportunity to discover new favourites, but you are guaranteed to leave feeling a little more knowledgeable about the world of wine. If you have not yet had an opportunity to attend one of these, they have a very special festive tasting scheduled on the 7th of December (‘Christmastime, Mistletoe and Wine’). This relaxed, informal tasting will give you the opportunity to sample a selection of Christmas classics, as well as peruse their range of festive gifting options. Is there a better way to get into the Christmas spirit? Simply email for more information, or to book. They also sell wine tasting gift vouchers, which is certain to make the perfect present for the wine buff in your life.
Corney & Barrow pride themselves on representing some of the world’s finest estates and winemakers, and much of their portfolio is exclusive to them. This range includes some fantastic Own Label wines, which are the result of decades-long partnerships. While you can find plenty of traditional fare, including Claret, Côtes du Rhône, and Vintage Port, they also have a fantastic selection of wines from the Southern Hemisphere, with recent new arrivals from Argentina and South Africa. And for the adventurous drinker, you can find Furmint from Hungary and Pinot Noir from Romania! And with a selection of gift boxes and bags, and well as suitably festive wrapping paper, any bottle can be made Christmas ready!
Surely you don’t need any more reasons to visit Corney and Barrow, but you might also be interested to know that their shop is (very) dog friendly! What are you waiting for?
