With tastefully decorated dining spaces, upstairs and down, and quirky objets d’art wherever you look, the Clocktower offers a relaxing space in which to enjoy everything from coffee and cake to a luxurious three course meal with hand-picked wines from around the world.
As you step inside you’re met with a handcrafted cake counter piled high with a vast selection of beautiful cakes and bakes behind which you’ll see a gleaming SanRemo Verona coffee machine; for coffee lovers everywhere you know that means you’re in for an outstanding cuppa. A quick glance at the menu and you’ll see that the same attention to detail and commitment to quality applies in the kitchen where a delicious repertoire of dishes focuses on fresh ingredients, balanced flavours and artistic presentation.
Breakfasts focus on well-loved favourites prepared with a touch of panache. Grilled breakfast platters (full, light or vegetarian), sweet or savoury brioche French toasts (for example bacon, blueberries & maple syrup) and Eggs Benedict with a choice of add-ons are amongst the many morning options plated with style. The toasted artisan sourdoughs topped with guacamole, confit tomatoes and toasted pumpkin seeds come highly recommended though, taking avo on toast far and beyond anything similar you’re likely to have tasted before.
Lunches are equally delightful with small plates, deli plates, sandwiches and mains on offer to cater for all appetites and occasions. The Clocktower Ploughman’s Deli Plate stands out boasting a Stornoway black pudding sausage roll served alongside local cheese, chutney, new potato salad, baby leaf salad, slaw and freshly baked focaccia. At only £10.95 the value for money is exceptional. For something lighter the roast garlic and lemon hummus with confit tomatoes, pickled chillis, spiced peanut dukkah, curry infused oil and freshly baked bread is magnificent.
The dinner menu, as you would expect, boasts some tremendous flavour combinations in dishes which, if you’re a foodie, will make your heart sing. The breaded sole fillets (so light, so fresh) served with tartare sauce, baby leaf salad and fries remains one of the most popular dishes, delivering taste, style and the feel-good factor all on one good-looking plate. When it comes to quality, value and setting this place has it all.
