The Drunken Coo
Steak Restaurant
22 Beresford Terrace, Ayr KA7 2EG
The Drunken Coo, located on Beresford Terrace in Ayr town centre, is just one of the restaurants in the independent food chain Kitchen 77 which also comprises Arthur Street Kitchen, Hollybush Inn, Stage Door Café and the most recent Silverburn based Stailinn Scottish Kitchen. Chef owner Chris Steele has been busy building a strong reputation in the food sector across Ayrshire and beyond and if you’ve been enjoying his focus on the finest quality food matched with excellent service then you’ll understand why.
Described as ‘Ayrshire’s Finest Steakhoose’ The Drunken Coo not only delivers the best steak in town but it does so in tastefully styled Mad Men-esque surroundings with earth tones, touches of gold, lots of black and some low lighting to set the tone. Upstairs you’ll find a cocktail lounge (open from 4pm) where you can relax and enjoy a pre or post dinner drink in style with everything from a classic Old Fashioned on the extensive drinks menu to some in-house specials like the ‘Coo breakfast’ which offers an Ayrshire twist on a White Russian.
As you would expect, it’s the steaks which steal the show here and for the meat loving connoisseurs out there you won’t find more specialty cuts in one place than in The Drunken Coo. Beef is sourced from Jim Nisbets and Son Sorn Mains Farm and is matured for 35 days for flavour and tenderness and cuts include everything from an 8oz hand cut fillet steak to a 22oz Cote de Boeuf. Alternatively, there’s a selection of reared Wagyu steaks which, having been matured for 42 days, are the ultimate when it comes to tenderness and flavour. With everything from the 250g rosemary and black garlic Wagyu flatiron steak on the menu to the almighty 500g Wagyu Chateaubriand (best for sharing) it’s a steak lover’s heaven. A long list of sauces and sides are on offer too so you can select the perfect accompaniments for your meal.
There are equally delicious and thoughtfully curated dishes on the A La Carte menu with favourites including grilled Troon Bay langoustines, pan roasted cod loin, seared duck breast and prime hand-made burgers alongside some mouth-watering and beautifully plated desserts. Keep an eye out for some fantastic mid-week specials (for example an 18oz Chateaubriand with frites, garlic mushrooms and your sauce of choice for £65) or pop in after work on a Friday when, from 4pm – 6pm, you can enjoy a full sirloin (6oz) steak dinner with all the trimmings for just £28.
